The War for African American Freedom The War For Africa American Freedom The Civil War was the turning point in American history to free a race that was considered property. This war would unify blacks and whites to fight side by side each other against the South. The Missouri Compromise, Nat Turner’s rebellion, the publication of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and Dred Scott V. Sanford led the North to consider themselves liberators against the slave-holding South. The Emancipation Proclamation would free over 3.1 million slaves out of a total of 4 million slaves during the time. This document would only free slaves from the Southern states. This compromise also drew an imaginary line establishing the boundary between free and slave states this was called the 3630 parallel line. Anything above the live would enter the Union as a free state and below would enter as a slave state. The North was very adamant that they didn’t want to spread slavery to any new states. And in 1831 a slave by the name of Nat Turner led a slave rebellion. He scheduled the rebellion then showed up a week earlier then it was supposing to start. He and 75 slaves murdered 51 white people. He was successfully for about six weeks then in Virginia him and 16 of his followers were caught, convicted and hangs. Because of Nat Turners rebellion the South executed over 56 blacks that were accused of being apart of the rebellion. He put the fear in white Southerners that their slave might follow his lead and rebel aginst them. In result of the rebellion they created harsher laws against slaves. The Wilmot Proviso was proposed in 1846 this was a bill that David Wilmot wanted to pass legislation. And if passed this would outlaw slavery acquired by the U.S obtained because of the Mexican American war. This bill would mess up the North and South the balance. This would make it to where the slave states would be out numbered by the free states. This would give the North to much power and the South didn’t feel safe
